Zanzibar
Excursions
The first recorded mention of Zanzibar is in the Mariner’s Guide written around 50 AD. In 1499, Vasco da Gama arrived and built a Church and a fort. In 1832, the Sultan of Oman transferred his seat of Government to Zanzibar. Zanzibar was at that time the world’s highest producer of Cloves. It was also the hub of the notorious slave trade.
A visitor to Zanzibar is usually charmed by the narrow lanes and leaning old buildings. Equally fascinating are the carved Zanzibar doors. It has a good variety of fish, fruits and spices.
